GPS Replays

GPS-driven replays of races and practice sessions on Condor, our Viper 640 sport boat, and other boats.

The following replays are powered by GPS Action Replay, an extremely powerful freeware application that utilizes GPS tracks (.GPX files) to replay sailing sessions on a PC, and enable some pretty powerful post-race performance analysis.

GPS Action Replay Hints and Tips:
1. In the Trajectories box at the top right of the replay window,  select the track you’d like to focus on, and then click on the “center” button.
2. In the “View Settings” box along the right side of the replay window,  make sure “Background”, “Waytpoints”, “Trajectories”, and “Auto Center” are all selected.
3. Also under “View Settings”, click on the “Footprints” button.
4. In the “Options” menu, uncheck the option “Track’s color depend on speed”.
5. In the “show graphs” box near the top right of the screen, check the box furthest to the right, which will display the speed graph. Then click and drag on the borders of the speed graph to resize its window. You can also right-click and left-click in the speed graph itself to zoom in and out.
6. Use the “Run”, “Speed” and “Scale” controls at the top of the replay window to control the replay.  I recommend setting speed to 20x or higher to speed up playback.

You can also experiment with all sorts of cool performance analysis tools in the menus. Check out the “dynamic view” menu, for example, which lets you turn on display of things like speed, VMG (Velocity made good, the speed component directly upwind, as opposed to the actual boat speed through the water. VMG is calculated off of a wind direction that you input into the applet manually), etc. Cool stuff.
